Area Activity Guide: An Earth Day Extravaganza!
April 2017
Celebrate Earth Day in the South Wedge
The South Wedge is the place to be in Rochester this Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd. Start your day with the Rochester Earth Day Parade, which kicks off at 10 am in Wadsworth Square. Right after the Earth Day Parade, the brand-new Abundance Food Co-Op is the only place to be! Be there at 11 for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony to catch a glimpse of the recently relocated co-op’s greatly expanded new digs. As soon as you’ve finished up at Abundance, join Impact Earth and SunCommon New York as they shut down the street for the RocWorthy Earth Festival.
Explore Sustainability at the RocWorthy Earth Festival
In addition to being a showcase of organizations and companies in Rochester doing innovative, sustainable work, SunCommon and Abundance’s ROCWorthy Earth Day Festival is “a free event with many family-friendly activities that include Rex the Rhino from the Rochester Rhino’s soccer team, Rec on the Move, Healthi Kids, food trucks, 40 vendors focusing on sustainability and community, samplings, and more!”
Head over to Hart’s
ROCWorthy takes place from 11 am to 2 pm. When you’ve made your way through that festival, you’ll have just enough time to hop on over to Hart’s Local Grocers for their Earth Day Vendor Market., which ends at 3pm. You can connect with Earth-conscious organizations like Rochester Urban Agriculture Working Group and Rochester Youth Climate Leaders, and meet local vendors, including Canaltown Coffee, War Horse Brewing Company and Laughing Gull Chocolates.
Celebrations Conclude at the Co-Op
With sufficient running around under your belt, head BACK to Abundance Food Co-Op to relax with live music and local food and drink tastings until 5. At that point, you’ll need a good meal and a place to put your feet up. After this Earth Day, everyone will have earned a day of rest on Sunday!
