Area Activity Guide: Colorful Foot Races
May 2017
Are you a runner in Rochester?
There are plenty of great resources around Rochester to help serious runners achieve new personal bests and attain new distances. For us couch-to-5k types, however, just the proposition of buying new running shoes can be intimidating. We casual runners are motivated to take on foot races for lots of reasons – fun with friends, weight loss, raising money for a good cause, or challenging ourselves. One thing that many of us share, though, is the feeling that running is hard.
Know what makes running easier? Distraction.
There has to be a good reason for the explosive growth of themed 5K and 10K races. Our money is on the theory that all that sensory overload prevents your brain from receiving all those signals from your body telling it to stop running. Whether you’re in it for the intrinsic benefit or the extrinsic entertainment, you’ll be happy to know that some of the most popular themed races in the country are now making their way to our fair city. So grab a few friends, register for a race, and prepare to get messy!
