Area Activity Guide: Family Archaeology Weekend
September 2017
A Family Field Trip
Don’t you wish your whole family could enjoy your child’s field trips? Younger siblings would have a chance to join in the fun and you’d get a glimpse of your little student digging into an educational experience. Well, the Rochester Museum and Science Center’s Family Archaeology Weekend is the perfect opportunity for your whole family to enjoy a field trip together. You can even sit together on the (shuttle) bus from the Cumming Nature Center Visitor Center to the site of the Hall Homestead on Frost Town Road.
Citizen Science
Family Archaeology Weekend is an example of an experience where members of the general public collaborate with professional scientists to collect and analyze data. You’ll get your hands dirty helping to excavate an 18th-century farmhouse foundation. Using sifting equipment and excavation grids, attendees will learn archaeological disciplines, excavation techniques, and artifact dating. Family Archaeology Weekend takes place from 9 am to 2:30 pm Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17. The price is $25 for a family or $10 for an individual.
