Area Activity Guide:GEVA Theatre
January 2015
Winter certainly isn’t for everybody. While some of us love to go out exploring the great white world, others of us would rather be inside, away from the snow and ice. But then there’s the question: What can you do inside?
Luckily, Elmwood Manor residents are only 5 minutes away from world-class theater! Rochester’s own GEVA Theatre brings thoughtful, engaging, and always-entertaining live stage shows throughout the entire year! 2015 is already shaping up to be quite the year for GEVA, with plays and musicals for every type of theater-goer. You’ve still got time to catch the madcap family musical Little Shop of Horrors (runs through 02/15), which features an award-winning score that incorporates elements of doo-wop, Motown soul, and classic rock-n-roll to tell a love story – that also features a man-eating plant.
After that bows out, Wendie MacLeod’s Women in Jeopardy will make it’s WORLD PREMIERE, and run from 02/24 – 03/22. It tells the story of two women who are beginning to suspect their friend’s new boyfriend might be more than just a weirdo – he might just be a serial killer! They combine forces to discover the truth in this wild, wacky murder mystery.
Beyond that, this spring will see such productions as the powerful Martin Luther King Jr. play, The Mountain Top and A Body of Water, about a couple who wakes up to a seemingly perfect life but have no memory of each other, written by Lee Blessing, author of the recent film phenomenon The Butler. But don’t wait for the warm weather. Chase those icy winter blues away with a trip to GEVA. You can see a full listing of shows and buy tickets right at GEVA’s Website.
