Area Activity Guide: Grow Green BBQ & Garden Days
June 2019
A STEM Smorgasbord
Join Grow Green Rochester on June 15th for its next fun and informative Community BBQ and Garden Day. These family and child-friendly events feature games for children of all ages, as well as different activities to support and help out the garden and greenhouse. Grow Green is a family-oriented urban agriculture program that fosters critical Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills using an outdoor classroom model. Each BBQ is a great opportunity to get back to nature, explore opportunities for ecotherapy, and enjoy contributing to a larger community.
Accessible Urban Agriculture
In addition to a delicious potluck barbecue, you can expect to use teamwork, physical activity, and creative skills to lend a hand and learn about urban farming. The Grow Green program engages youth, families and other members of the community in all aspects of the urban agriculture process, such as planning what to grow, preparing the soil for planting, seeding plants, caring for growing plants throughout all stages of growth, selling produce and other plants, preserving produce, and more! Grow Green focuses on agricultural methods that are environmentally safe, conserve water, decrease the use of pesticides, and are easily usable and sustainable by novices, as well as those with health challenges.
