What’s your favorite holiday?

For so many people, the answer is Halloween. With so many special events happening in and around Rochester, we can understand why. If the six weeks since summer have dampened your spirits, you can stir them up again with a diverse array of seasonal activities. Here are a few highlights from the exhaustive lineup of holiday events.

Advanced Tarot at the Rochester Brainery

Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 7 pm to 9 pm

Location: Rochester Brainery
Ages: 18+
Requirements: BYO Rider-Waite tarot deck

Advanced Tarot is a learning opportunity for those seeking a more serious experience of the supernatural. The class is intended for experienced students who are actively using a Rider-Waite card deck. There will be a Q&A about tarot card spreads, and skills for working with readings for friends and clients will be the primary emphasis.


Museum of the Dead: Alive Again

Friday, October 28, 2016 from 9 pm to 12 am

Location: Memorial Art Gallery
Ages: 21+ with valid ID

Enjoy a night of art, music, and dancing in the environs of the MAG. Creative types can enjoy interactive art projects, Edgar Allen Poe readings, and a costume contest. There will be food, wine, and beer for sale, along with giveaways from The Little Theatre, Nox, Urban Decay Cosmetics, and more.


90’s Halloween House Party!

Friday, October 28 from 7 pm to 2 am
Location: The Playhouse/Swillburger
Ages: 21+

Kick off Halloween weekend surrounded by vintage video games, vampire fries, and monster tots at The Playhouse / Swillburger 90’s Halloween House Party. You can expect a tap takeover by Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers, plus additional tasty beers and cocktails — including a chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, chile pepper, and coffee-infused milk stout and a 30% fruit puree mixed-culture Sour Ale refermented with apricots and dry-hopped with Azacca! And as a bonus, the costume contest promises RAD prizes.


College Town Halloween Town & Dog Parade

This is just the second year for the College Town neighborhood’s Halloween celebration. Head to Barnes & Noble on Saturday for free pumpkins, pumpkin painting, cider, and donuts (while supplies last). Once the kids’ pumpkins have been painted, grown-ups can indulge with the tapping of Southern Tier Pumpkin at The Beer Market. Sunday’s festivities feature live music, trick-or-treating from 11 am to noon, and a pet parade at 1 pm. There will be tons of festival goodies, especially for young attendees.
