Area Activity Guide: Holidays at the Public Market
December 2016
Celebrate the Season Downtown!
When you live in close proximity to local food sellers like the Brighton and South Wedge farmers markets, McCann’s Local Meats, and Hart’s Local Grocers, it can take something special to draw you downtown. The Rochester Public Market, however, offers something for everyone in every season through its diverse programming. Whether you get your food by mail order or CSA, it’s wise to keep your eye on the market’s special events calendar. Among the annual traditions of which every Rochesterian should be aware is Holidays at the Market each Sunday in December leading up to Christmas.
A Rochester Holiday Tradition
Next time you get the urge to bundle up and head downtown, grab a hot beverage and enjoy the sights, sounds, and delicious smells brought together by Holidays at the Market. Each year, the series gathers an array of vendors offering handmade art, crafts, decorations, edible delicacies, gifts, stocking stuffers, and more. You’ll also find everything you need to deck your halls, including a wide selection of trees, wreaths, fresh garlands, and other holiday goodies.
This year, families can take a free horse-drawn carriage ride with Santa between 10 am and 2 pm, taking off from the new “D” shed. Bakers of all ages can compete in the annual Cookie Contest by dropping off a dozen homemade cookies at the Market Office on Sunday, December 18th before noon.
