Area Activity Guide: Maplewood Rose Celebration
June 2015
We all know of the famous Lilac Festival (and with good reason!), but lilacs aren’t the only beautiful flowers that deserve to be celebrated in Rochester. Roses are in bloom, and in that spirit, we’d like to recommend checking out the Maplewood Rose Celebration, located in and around the magnificent Maplewood Rose Garden on Driving Park Lane. In case you’re wondering where that is, it’s only about a 15 minute drive from your very own Elmwood Manor Apartments!
The Maplewood Rose Celebration goes far beyond simply stopping and smelling the roses. It also acts as a celebration of the historic Maplewood Neighborhood, replete with many gorgeous homes that are over a century old. Not only that, but the festival, which runs June 12th through the 14th, features tours of the incredible gardens designed by the famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead. The way the neighborhood itself is coupled with the majestic natural landscape (including a river and gorge) is truly a sight to see. The festivities of the weekend include tours, live music, activities for kids, wine tastings with local wineries, and much more! A full listing of all the fun can be found here. Don’t miss out on this sometimes-overlooked addition to our many terrific summer festivals!
