Area Activity Guide: Rochester Fringe Festival 2015
Frequent the 4th Annual Rochester Fringe Festival!
Just 4 years from its inception, Rochester’s Fringe Festival has grown to receive nationwide recognition. If you’ve never been, “the Fringe is a 10-day, all-out, no-holds-barred, multi-disciplinary visual and performing arts festival.”
Reach the festival in under 20 minutes by catching the 53 at the intersection of Goodman & Highland – just a 5-minute walk from Elmwood Manor! Just make sure to bring a few dollars in cash for the bus.
Access the Fest
Though an all-access Fringe Fanatic pass will run you $190, there’s truly something for everyone. While you’re out and about, be sure to pick up an Official Fringe Guide or City Newspaper’s own version. Browse all the Fringe Festival events online on the official calendar. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door, but some shows have VERY limited attendance, so plan ahead. Once you’ve arrived, get your bearings in the Spiegelgarden, the pop-up urban garden headquarters of everything Fringe Fest.
Free Events
It’s the FREE Grounded Aerial World Premier! See this spectacular headliner Friday, September 18th in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park at Manhattan Square. Performers will be flying high, so bring a blanket to lay on. Music starts at 5, with four bands performing before the main event at 8.
There’s free music on Gibbs Street all night throughout both weekends of the festival. Since watching concerts for 48 hours straight necessitates some creature comforts, you’ll also find buskers, food trucks, and plenty of libations on the closed-off street.
Back in the Spiegelgarden, take a break from the immersive theater experience at the Pedestrian Drive-In, which will be showing free feature films throughout the festival.
