Area Activity Guide: ROCO’s 6×6 Ross Fest

March 2017

If you’re into the arts and have been in Rochester for a while, you’re undoubtedly familiar with the annual 6×6 fundraiser hosted by Rochester Contemporary Art Center. But just in case you haven’t…

Haven’t Heard of 6×6?

6×6 is an exhibition of artworks made and donated by all sorts of people all over the world — celebrities, international and local artists, designers, college students, children! Each artwork must have the dimensions of 6 inches by 6 inches (or be mounted to a 6-by-6 inch board). At the fabulous opening-night event (June 3, 2017 from 4-10pm), the public is unleashed in the RoCo gallery, where all submissions (displayed anonymously) are available for purchase at the flat rate of $20.

But then there’s Ross Fest.

To help members of the local community get inspired, motivated, and moving to complete their submissions, RoCo hosts 6×6-themed events throughout the month of March. Among them, the 6×6-month kickoff party stands out for empowering regular people (from untrained artists to people who think they haven’t an artistic bone in their bodies) to create works they’re proud to display at an art opening and offer for purchase. That night is known as Ross Fest, and it’s a celebration of late, great artist Bob Ross‘s “art for all” approach. Use the pre-stocked art stations to paint happy little trees to your heart’s delight or turn a “happy accident” into a beautiful display piece. Space is limited, so even if you don’t make it to the Bob-Ross-themed kickoff party, you should still make an art and attend the main event on June 3rd.
