Community Alert: Winter at Elmwood Manor
October 2016
It’s the post you’ve been dreading!
It’s not quite upon us yet, but when the (really) cold weather gets here, you’ll want to know this essential information. Here are some basic guidelines that will help the staff at Elmwood Manor to make the season a little more bearable for everyone.
How to Win at Winter
Never, under any circumstances, turn off your heat.
This will cause pipes to freeze and burst, resulting in significant damage to your apartment and belonging or, even worse, your neighbors’. If that happens, you will be held responsible. Thermostats should never be set below 50 degrees during the winter months.
Don’t park on Lilac Drive between 2 am and 7 am.
Lilac Drive is a Town of Brighton road. There is no parking on this road from 2 am to 7 pm between the dates of November 1st and April 15th. Any vehicles that are parked on the road during these times will be blocked in by the snowplows, could be subject to a parking ticket, and could be towed.
Do not park in a place marked with a “No Parking” sign.
There are limited areas where we can place the snow when we plow. The “No Parking” areas are designated for this purpose. We reserve the right to have any vehicles parked in these areas ticketed or towed.
Don’t park your vehicle over the sidewalk.
The equipment used to remove the snow from the sidewalks cannot fit if there is a vehicle in the way. When you’re parking by a sidewalk, please be sure that the front of your vehicle is not hanging over it.
Remove unregistered/unlicensed vehicles.
Tenants shall not park unregistered or unlicensed vehicles on the premises. It’s in Item #20 of the Rules and Regulations in your lease agreement. All vehicles on the premises need to be legal and operational. Any that are not must be removed immediately or will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Rotate your parking spot.
During a snow event, please be sure to move your vehicle to different spots to assist the maintenance staff in clearing snow from all of the parking spots. Be sure to notify maintenance if you will be out of town, or if there is any other reason that you will be unable to rotate your parking spot.
Don’t leave your running car unattended.
Do not, under any circumstance, start your vehicle to warm it up and then walk away from it. An unattended running vehicle is a target for theft. Also, do not leave anything of value in your vehicle. With this in mind, if you notice anything suspicious (like unfamiliar cars circling in and out of the parking lots), please call 911 immediately and provide a description. You just might prevent a neighbor or yourself from vandalism or theft. This is a general safety rule that applies at the grocery store, shopping mall, or anywhere else where there are a lot of vehicles.
Keep our community well-salted.
If you notice an area that needs additional salt to be spread, please contact the maintenance department.
