Eat Healthy, Save Money

We all know how important it is to eat healthy.  One problem we hear all the time is that eating good, nutritious food is so much more expensive than grabbing fast food.  Fortunately, Rochester has a number of places that can help you improve your diet without breaking the bank at the same time.  We thought we’d highlight two of our favorites today.

The first is the great Rochester Public Market.  Located on Union Street (a quick 10 minute drive from Elmwood Manor), the Public Market is an amazing place to find all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, and you might not be aware that you can also find household staples like bread, eggs, milk, and meats there.  You can also find a slew of ethnic foods, so go try something different!  And thankfully, prices are almost always exceptional.  Not only that, but it can be a fun outing for the whole family – getting outside, getting active, and taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells.  And while it can certainly be crowded on Saturday mornings, the Public Market is also open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We recommend visiting one of those days for anyone who wants to avoid the crowds.

For a lot of people, eating organic is becoming more and more of a priority.  Once again, however, that can be expensive.  Luckily for us all, we’ve got Abundance Cooperative Market in town, and it’s not even 10 minutes away from Elmwood Manor Apartments!  The first fantastic thing about Abundance is that you can get all kinds of alternative groceries and natural products.  Their selection is wide-ranging and always intriguing, and focuses on safe, natural, organic products at reasonable prices.  On top of that, their spices, flours, and grains are all sold in bulk, so you can buy as much or as little as you need!  Rather than spending $5 or $6 on a bottle of a spice you only need a little bit of for a recipe, you can go weigh out exactly how much you want to use and buy it that way.  That way, you won’t pay for product you won’t use!  Just like the Public Market, Abundance is a wonderful resource for those looking to branch out into new tastes, keep their diet healthy and nutritious, and watch their spending.  Get smart, eat healthy, and save some money!
