Local(ish) Recipe Spotlight: Poutine
June 2016
Poutine, eh?
Unfortunately, we Americans can’t claim poutine as our own. Still, Upstate New York is one of the best places in the world to access authentic Canadian gravy-cheese-curd fries. North of the border, you can find this simple-yet-delectable delicacy everywhere, including at pizza shops, convenient potato shacks and chip trucks. Thanks to our own food trucks and local restaurants committed to offering awesome appetizers, there’s no shortage of poutine right here in Rochester.
The Classic Recipe
This recipe isn’t much of one. Great poutine is more matter of sourcing ingredients than anything else. If cooking isn’t your forte, poutine offers you an opportunity to shine the next time you host a party.
- French Fries – medium thickness, crunchy outside, soft inside
- Cheese Curds – fresh and of the “squeaky” cooked variety
- Gravy – a light brown poultry variation, not too thick or too thin
That’s it! Pile ’em up and behold the savory, salty, melty goodness!
