Rochester Meatball Mania
May 2016
The Flour City has no shortage of enthusiasm for regional delicacies, most of which involve a meat component. Lately, though, there’s been plenty of buzz focusing on dishes that highlight or elevate meat (or meatball-shaped veg) on its own. By exploring these local eateries, you can gain an appreciation of Rochester’s spectrum of meatball options.
Skylark
The Skylark Lounge is known for a lot of things, not the least of which is their meatballs. Thanks to incredibly low prices, you won’t go broke filling up on meatballs with a side, on a sub, or served slider-style. Skylark’s quirky casual atmosphere also plays host to live music, pinball, and a pretty great beer menu.
Orbs
When you’re looking for a more upscale experience, it’s time to try out Orbs. Though they’re in the business of meatballs, their atmosphere doesn’t show it. The amazing cocktail menu gives diners the opportunity to wash down their meat and veggie orb-shaped appetizers with some of the most unique drinks in town.
The Meatball Truck
You can find The Meatball Truck at food truck rodeos at the Rochester Public Market, at Rochester Rhinos games, and at various festivals throughout the summer. When you catch this rolling restaurant, you can enjoy Antonetta’s meatballs in a cup, on a sub, or in the form of a Meatball Truck Plate.
DiBella’s
DiBella’s doesn’t offer a wide array of meatball options, but they do have what’s rumored to be the best meatball sub in town.
